Patience

The test we all struggle with

We all know patience is important

But let’s be honest -

when life hits hard

patience feels impossible

Whether it’s losing someone

facing rejection

or watching our plans fall apart…

And the first thing we want to do is question

complain

or let the pain break us

I’ve been there

You’ve been there

We’ve all been there

But there’s a lesson from Ali ibn Abi Talib ر that completely changes how we look at hardship

When he went to console a man who lost his son

he told him something that still echoes centuries later:

  • If you feel sadness, Allah has mercy on you

  • If you are patient, Allah replaces your loss with something better

  • But if you complain against Allah’s will, you only harm yourself

It’s not a call to suppress our feelings

It’s a call to redirect them

The decree will unfold no matter what -

we can’t change what Allah has written

But what we can change is how we respond

And that response is what decides whether we walk away with reward….

or regret

One of the biggest misconceptions we have is thinking that being patient means “not crying”

But even Prophet Ya’qub ع cried so much over Yusuf ع that his eyes turned white from grief

And he was still patient

Patience isn’t about pretending you’re okay

It’s about holding onto Allah even when you’re breaking inside

It’s about trusting His wisdom when you don’t understand His plan

So the tears are fine

The ache in your heart is fine

The du’a you whisper in the middle of the night

trembling

is fine

What matters is:

do you still trust Allah through it all?

Think about your hardships like this:

every moment of patience is like putting coins into a jar

The jar doesn’t look full at first

It takes time

It takes consistency

But on the Day of Judgement

that jar will be poured out in front of you -

and you’ll see a mountain of reward that came from the nights you bit your tongue

the days you held back anger

the hours you resisted hopelessness

Allah promises:

“Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without measure”

(Qur’an 39:10)

Without measure

No counting

No limits

That’s the power of sabr

Let me ask you something:

  • What’s one situation right now where patience feels hardest for you?

  • Are you rushing to complain? Or are you holding back, reminding yourself that Allah is watching and rewarding?

Take a moment to reflect

Because patience isn’t just for tragedies

It’s for the everyday tests too -

when traffic annoys you

when people wrong you

when your plans keep falling apart

These small moments are training grounds

They prepare you for the bigger storms

The next time life shakes you

remember this:

Your loss is written. Your patience is your choice.

If you’re going through something right now, reply with “make du’a for me”

I’ll make a du’a for you personally, inshaAllah
