When everything falls apart - what will you hold onto?

A light in the darkest of nights

Let’s be honest for a moment.

Life has a way of humbling us.

One minute you feel in control -

the job’s going well

your friendships are easy

you’ve got a little extra money coming in

and then…

out of nowhere, things slip.

A bill you didn’t expect.
A person you trusted walks away.
A plan you poured your heart into crumbles.

And suddenly, you’re left staring at your reflection asking:
“What now?”

It’s in these moments, when the world feels heavy

that you start to realise what you’ve really built your life upon.

Because if your foundation was your money
what happens when it’s gone?

If it was people’s approval
what happens when they leave?

If it was your job title, your routine, your ambition -
what happens when those things are stripped away?

The truth is, we all build our lives around something.
But not everything we build on is worth holding onto.

Recently, I came across a narration.

A group of companions once approached a righteous man named Jundub and asked him for advice

and this is what he said:

“I advise you to fear Allah. I advise you to hold tight to the Qur’an - for it is a light in the darkest of nights, and guidance during the day. If poverty or a trial comes, give your religion priority over your wealth. And if the trial worsens, give your religion precedence over your life. Because the only one truly destroyed is the one whose religion is destroyed. And know - there’s no poverty after Paradise, and no wealth after Jahannam."

SubhanAllah.

Let that sit with you for a moment.

There’s no poverty after Jannah.
Meaning, even if you lived your whole life struggling, but died with you’re Imaan intact - you’ve already won.

And no matter how rich, popular, or successful someone looks right now, if their end is destruction… none of this matters.

What struck me most was this:
We live in a world obsessed with chasing what won’t last.
More likes.
More money.
More approval.
More followers.
More ‘opportunities.’

But very few people are chasing the one thing that can’t be taken away: their Deen.

And the irony is - it’s the only thing that’ll matter when we meet Allah.

It’s easy to forget.
I forget sometimes too.

We get caught up in deadlines, saving for things, scrolling through posts about how other people are “winning.”
And somewhere along the way, our connection to the Qur’an softens.
Our Salah becomes rushed.
Our du’as become scarce.

But then life hits us.

And we realise - when the world shakes beneath you, your Deen is the only thing that keeps you standing.

If you’ve still got your Imaan, you’ve got everything.
If you’ve lost it, you’ve got nothing.

So here’s your reminder, and mine:

Return to the Qur’an. Open it like it was sent to you -
because it was.

Pray like you need it -
because you do.

Repent like your soul depends on it -
because it does.

Start small.
A page a day.
A sincere du’a after every Salah.
A whispered Astaghfirullah on your commute.

Build your life around what can’t be taken away.

This life was never meant to be the prize.
It’s just the test.

And in the end, the only wealth that matters is the wealth of your heart and Imaan.

A personal question for you:

What’s one thing you’re holding onto too tightly right now, that you know you need to let go of?

Reply to this email - I genuinely want to hear from you.
I read every single reply.

And if this reminder touched your heart, forward it to a friend who might need it too.

You never know whose life you might change with a simple message.

P.S. I share more like this on Threads and Instagram. Come say Salaam.

Until the next letter,

hidvyaa
